Impact Scholars Program

Impact Scholars

Impact Scholars are selected by the Penn State College of Engineering to contribute in specific and meaningful ways to the inclusive academic community within the college and the University. In this program, scholars develop peers and allies to support their academic success and build a social network within engineering. The College of Engineering makes a specific effort to connect scholars to activities that have been proven to help students achieve higher levels of academic success. This program is designed to help students: (1) achieve the required grade point average for scholarships, (2) become community leaders in engineering, and (3) successfully enter their desired majors. Many of these activities are managed through our Center for Engineering Outreach and Inclusion.

Impact Scholars Program Details

The Impact Scholars program begins during a scholar’s first year and continues until their graduation. Impact Scholars are seen as student leaders who may be asked to provide a student perspective in College of Engineering initiatives, e.g., focus groups, panels, surveys.

Impact Scholars must maintain enrollment in a College of Engineering degree program, full-time status each fall and spring semester (12 credits minimum per semester), and a satisfactory record of personal conduct as outlined in Penn State’s Code of Conduct. Impact Scholars do NOT receive additional scholarship funds by participating in this program, and scholarships are not impacted if a student chooses to stop participating in the Impact Scholars program.

Special engineering orientation programs (in addition to the University New Student Orientation):

Co-curricular program activities: These activities are held during the semester and include Impact Scholars workshops, professional development, mentorship, project events, Multicultural Engineering Program events, and/or Women in Engineering Program activities.

Other opportunities: Impact Scholars are also encouraged to participate in the wide array of programs and organizations to support academic, social, and civic endeavors within Penn State and beyond.
