Multicultural Engineering Program

The Multicultural Engineering Program (MEP) strives to foster a welcoming environment that celebrates culture and inclusion. It is our mission to improve the recruitment and retention of underrepresented groups who are pursuing a degree in engineering. We aim to do this through developing students both academically and professionally and through engagement in impactful leadership opportunities. Programs for Incoming First-Year Students

Engineering Summer Bridge – A 6-week program the summer before students begin their first year at Penn State University Park.

Multicultural Engineering Program Orientation (MEPO) – A 4-day orientation program for incoming first-year engineering students at all Penn State campuses.


Programs for Undergraduate Students

Jump Start – A 4-week summer bridge program for students who have completed at least one semester at Penn State.

MEP Nights – Workshops to provide essential resources for success in engineering.

Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP) – An 8-week research program designed to interest talented undergraduate students from underrepresented groups in academic careers and to enhance their preparation for graduate study through intensive research experiences with faculty mentors.


Programs for Graduate Students

Graduate Equity – The Multicultural Engineering Program is dedicated to the success of all the students that we serve. We are committed to providing an inclusive climate for all graduate students that fosters diversity and equity in the College of Engineering.

Multicultural Engineering Graduate Association (MEGA) – An official Penn State student organization that fosters the recruitment and retention of domestic underrepresented graduate students in all STEM field across University Park. If you are already an engineering graduate student, please keep an eye out for a notice of the next meeting. If you are not receiving the emails and would like to, please contact our office.

Founded to serve students from groups underrepresented in engineering, the Center for Engineering Outreach and Inclusion assists College of Engineering students, faculty, and staff with equity and inclusion engagement. The center leads the implementation of evidence-based best practices to support student belonging and degree attainment, while also encouraging involvement with justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion programs and organizations.
